Lions hope to "Stop Blindness"
Crestwood club will collect pennies at Streetsboro Family Days
(Record Courier 7/26/2008)

The Crestwood Lions Club will be collecting pennies to "Stop Blindness" at their special stop sign from July 31st  through August 3rd during Streetsboro Family Days.
Crestwood Lion Bob Bard made the big red stop sign for the penny challenge and is asking people to save their change to put in the box.
Statistics show that a child goes blind every minute, and 1 out of every 35 older adults is visually impaired. An estimated 37 million people are blind today.
More than 9 million people over the age of 40 suffer from age-related diseases that cause blindness, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, or macular degeneration. At least 80 percent of blindness is reversible or preventable.
Since 1917, Lions Clubs have offered people the opportunity to give back to their communities, with involvement in projects such as "Campaign Sight First II" and the "Sight First" program.
For every $6 donated, a person´s sight can be saved, according to the Lions Club, and everyone´s change can make a difference. The Lions´ goal is to raise $150 million to prevent blindness.
Donations are tax-deductible. Checks made payable to the Lions Club International Foundation may be sent to  Lion Robert Bard, Crestwood Lions Clubs, Mantua, Ohio 44255.
Containers for donations also will be located around Streetsboro during Streetsboro Family Days. Interested doners may contact the Crestwood Lions Club to get a container for their own location or to become a sponsor. For more information, call Bob Bard at (330) 274-3304.
